3 Steps to Prioritize Your Health and Fitness

If you are like most people, taking care of yourself usually does not make it to the top of your priority list. However, you probably know it needs to. Often, knowing where and how to start is one of the most challenging parts, so we’ve put together these three quick tips to help.

1. Relieve Stress

Stress is a regular part of daily life. With mile-long to-do lists, deadlines to meet, homes to care for, and more, pressure is present at almost every turn. Unfortunately, it can wreak havoc on your physical, mental, and emotional health.

Stress might be unavoidable, but it is certainly manageable. Here are just a few ways to relieve the stress in your life.

  • Make time for yourself: Take a break from all of the demands you face. Read a book, enjoy a hobby, visit friends, or take a lazy day.

  • Be active: Being active reduces the body’s cortisol levels, which is a stress hormone, and adrenaline. It also releases endorphins, which are also called “feel-good neurotransmitters” and “the happy hormones.” Even a brisk walk around the neighborhood can alter your mood.

  • Enjoy a massage: Massages are well-known for their de-stressing benefits, but they do not stop there. They also reduce pain and muscle tension, which can both cause stress, lower the heart rate and blood pressure, and create an overall relaxing atmosphere.

2. Take in the Right Stuff

Junk food may be tasty and fast food convenient, but neither benefits the body. As they lack nutritional value, you often find yourself hungry quickly after eating. This is because the body is still in need of the vitamins and nutrients that they need.

Additionally, junk food causes a surge in insulin, followed by a sudden drop in blood sugar. That drop not only contributes to hunger but also to foul moods and fatigue. Though enjoying some junk food can be okay, the priority should always be to eat healthily.

3. Commit to Regular Exercise

In addition to relieving stress, exercise provides a lot of other benefits. Exercise- even just a few minutes a day- can increase the production and absorption of vitamins and minerals in the body. This means that more of the healthy food you need remains where your body needs it the most. When your body has the vitamins and minerals it needs, your overall health improves.

Additionally, regular can provide the following results:

  • Weight loss or weight control

  • Energy boosts

  • Better sleep

  • Longer natural life

  • Less sickness

  • Stronger muscles

  • Cancer risk reduction

  • Stronger bones

  • Pain reduction

These are just a few common benefits of regular exercise, but the list continues.
